Lucy Sawyer grew up in a tiny Maine village. Her adult years were spent traveling and living coast to coast (9 times by auto) with her Air Force husband, Ed. They have four children, and ten grandchildren.
Completely self-taught, Lucy painted craft items for many years, and became inspired to paint on canvas when they finally settled in New Kent, Virginia, in 1994. A prolific artist, she often has
several
works under way at once. Her art is usually in the
realist style, painted in acrylics, oils, or mixed media.
The subjects of Lucy's art are extremely varied, and
include portraits, still life, landscapes and seascapes,
wildlife and nature, pastoral and nautical.
In her community she shared her art by creating signs,
Interior murals, and murals on the library's streetside
windows for several years. Ed built Lucy's studio in a
separate building at their home, and now has a thriving
custom framing business. They work together in the
hilltop studio, where
Lucy's art students find their way
each week through the charmingly landscaped cottage
garden to
express their creativity with brush and canvas.
Lucy occasionally exhibits at local galleries and
businesses, and also accepts commissioned work.
